Metallica – Milton Keynes 1993
One of my most memorable shows – more for the post-concert agony than anything else. Polygram took a bus load of journalists, radio pluggers and retailers to Milton Keynes to see Metallica. When we got there, they offered me two tickets for the “snake pit”, basically a 12′ by 15′ hole in the middle of the stage that held about 20 crazed moshing fans. I was far too old to handle it, but being who I am, I took them and climbed down the ladder with my pal Eddie. Once in there, the ladder was removed for the duration of the show. And the nutter fans began to mosh, not stopping for over 2 hours. The band would come over to the hole and look down at us leering and shouting. Not accustomed to moshing, my body hurt for about three weeks afterwards. My moshing days came and thankfully went in that one unforgettable night.
