The Rose of Avalanche – York UK 1986

One of Yorkshire’s goth bands of the mid 80’s, Rose of Avalanche really impressed me. The name alone seemed quite exotic – unlike their home town of Leeds, which I know well. Their biggest single was entitled “LA Rain”, something that I doubt they’d ever experienced! The singer, Phil, naturally modeled himself on the sage of gothness at the time, The Sisters of Mercy’s Andrew Eldritch. To give TROA credit, they did play an excellent version of the Doors’ “Waiting For The Sun”.
