Wow this brings back memories. WEA flew us to Dublin where Elvis was rehearsing for his tour. There were about 10 of us and we sat on couches and were provided with Guinness while watching the band. Elvis was charming, telling stories about the songs and taking requests. Afterwards, the label took the band and ourselves around Dublin on a pub crawl with open tabs in all these great old Irish pubs. I got to sit next to Jake Rivera, Elvis’ manager and the founder of Stiff Records, who told me all kinds of great stories about working with Elvis, Nick Lowe, The Damned and Ian Dury. I also got to chat with the great bassist, Jerry Scheff. He was Elvis Presley’s bass player through the 70’s and also recorded with Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, The Everly Brothers, as well as playing bass for the Doors on the LA Woman record.
