My mate Chris and I stood in a line outside the City Hall for 3 hours to get Hillage tickets. We didn’t realize that Steve had such a following. When we got to the front, we learned that everyone else in the line was there for Bad Company...

The first British date on the 1987 Appetite tour was in my old stomping ground. They were excellent, although I did enjoy Faster Pussycat too. It was only 4 more Brit shows before they headlined Donnington the following year, and then in my opinion, it all went downhill...
Dan Reed Network ...
posted by davealder@mac.com
Very much of the time, Dan Reed did a reasonable job merging Bon Jovi (who he’d opened for) with Prince and Sly Stone. I seem to remember him doing Sly’s “Hot Fun In…” at this show but maybe incorrect. Anyway, he shaved off his locks and that was the end of the career....

I got this pic at one of Lonesome Dave Peverett’s last shows with Foghat. The show was at the Key Club in Hollywood in October 1999, and the former leader of Savoy Brown and singer of Foghat passed away from cancer the following year. Very...

Wembley, London, October 15th 1987. Dylan supported by Tom Petty and former Byrd, Roger McGuinn. More Rickenbackers on stage than sand in the Sahara. I also remember that night as England suffered a very rare Hurricane. Bob had predicted it on Desire – “here comes the story of the...

There have been many promotional inflatable Zep blimps released over the years. This one is for the 2003 US How The West Was Won / Led Zeppelin DVD campaign. I’ve found it difficult not to open the packaging over the years, but my inner geek has kept it...

The original copies of Odds and Sods contained this removable poster behind the die cut sleeve front. It was later changed to a permanent card backing bearing the same photo as well as including the poster. The shot is from the North American 1973 tour. It’s a really weird shot. The...

The first show the Who played with Kenney Jones and Rabbit. The review is positive, but it also refers to what used to be called BOFs in the UK at that time – Boring Old Farts. It was punk rock time, and I think that the UK weeklies had a dilemma about whether to dessert the great rock...

I love both bands, and think that the term “crucial tours” is even better. Times were more serious, but what’s wrong with...
Hanoi Rocks – ...

I had a soft spot for Hanoi even though they were total plagiarists – Aerosmith, New York Dolls et al. I love it that the ticket says “No dress restrictions” – just as well considering both band and audience! Johnny Thunders was a train wreck. It was on the cards as...

Tull at the Greek Theater in LA. I remember them being average at this show, even though I’m a fan. I also remember being extremely bloated after having an enormous curry on the way there courtesy of the label folks. This is extremely appropriate as Ian Anderson has written a book about...

There was a huge buzz about the Strokes, even before the first record was released. I went to the packed LA show and it really soured my thoughts about the band. They kept the shoulder to shoulder crowd waiting for hours and then played a set lasting about 45 minutes. Not...
