The Mersey Sound – UK 1967
I’ve had this book since I was 11. Henri, Patton and McGough were the leading lights of the Liverpool poetry scene in the 60’s. After I’d bought the book, I discovered that my English teacher, Mr McCarthy, was a big fan. I think that as a result, he started reading the poems in class. It probably didn’t make me too popular with the rest of the kids, but hey.
Roger McGough recorded a brilliant psychedelic record with Mike McGear, Paul McCartney’s brother. There are even cameo appearences from Jimi Hendrix, Dave Mason and others. You can now get it on iTunes. Recommended.
When I was about 14, I went to a live reading and met McGough. Nice bloke.
